Was it really 15 years ago?

on April 17, 2017 - 11:33pm

15 years. Not so long ago I heard Josh sing for the first time. All of us here at FOJG knew that what we were hearing was not just a good voice, it was a naturally great one. It's once in a lifetime that art lifts your spirit like that, the kind of singing unheard of and underappreciated today. We've learned who he is, at least a little. He's no angel, not a Pavarotti, nor a Billy Joel. No comparison, really. He dared to be himself, and we've always liked him for that. Funny, nice, and caring.

Ravinia in Highland Park, IL 8/10/13

on August 11, 2013 - 1:56am

What an amazing show! No one wanted it to end.

It was my first time to Ravinia, and the place is beautiful and historic. Everyone brings a picnic and sits on the lawn before the show. It looked like a sea of people. As the sun started to set, it reminded me of George Seurat's painting. It was nice to meet so many people I've seen on this board. (Hi to Lauren, Christa, Lisa, Tara, Margie, Chrissy, Pam, Vanna, Belle, and Bill :) It made my going alone so much better just to get to know other fans. Thanks!

Just back from the theater...

on February 4, 2013 - 8:17pm

That was a really nice experience. I knew a quiet theater would be different from being at a live concert, but a good second. Well, except for the guy with the white fringe who had to open a candybar with a crinkly wrapper in the middle of a song. And the woman behind me was enjoying her popcorn a little too much. It was ok, I just didn't want to miss a note.

I liked the fact that there were so many camera angles and closeups, much better than an in-person show in that respect. They showed all the band members, and they all did an incredible job, all master musicians. The instruments have more of role, and I love it! Tariqh, Ruslan, Aaron, and Christian all had solo parts that sounded just gorgeous, especially Ruslan's ending on TMiaHM. Breathtaking!

What not to do when driving in snow...

on February 25, 2012 - 10:11pm

What was supposed to be an uneventful drive home from work ended up a lesson in what not to do when driving in snow. First, never, ever say to yourself, "I wonder why everyone's driving so slow, it's just a light snow." And never ignore that small voice inside your head that says, "You better put it in four wheel drive." And last, never ever just tap your brakes when there's either black ice or wet snow to slow down for the trucks ahead of you. You'll most definitely end up fishtailing and sliding all the way to the ditch. If you're fortunate you'll miss all the cars like I did.

Josh replied to my tweet

on March 7, 2011 - 12:30am

I was so surprised that Josh replied. I'm glad my comment was an encouragement to Josh. Passing on a love for music is important to him, and it's important to our family, too.

My son has an interest in guitar but rarely does he get it out to play. I've given him a few piano lessons, but he's more interested in guitar. He needs lessons, but we haven't found a classical guitar instructor yet. He really likes the song WK--it's the one track he really likes. He even put it on his laptop. My son's 13, about the same age Josh was when he wrote the song. It was amazing to see my son get motivated--all on his own-- to play an instrument. Now if only I could motivate him to pick up his clothes at the foot of his bed!
