my cousin, the Grobanite

on August 25, 2007 - 10:29pm

OMG!!! My cousin, Irene, came to visit me tonight. She is only 17 and my other 3 cousins came (Dayanna, Susan & Moises). I wasn't home at the time, I was at church singing and afterwords, I rushed to my house and we started screaming and jumping. I love her so much and we haven't seen each other for an extremely long period of time.
Well, my younger brother was talking about what music he likes and then he pointed out to my cousins that I love Josh Groban and his music (he said it in a snoty voice) and then....she started screaming..."OMG!!!! I LOVE JOSH GROBAN TOO!!!!!!!!!"
WOW!!! my cousin is a Grobanite!!!! and I had no idea (thats how long we hadn't seen each other) and also my cousin Susan (she is only 10) she loves Josh, and she said "he is cute, isn't he?"
it was so cute how she said it..and my other cousin, Dayanna, said "he is so hot, you can bake cookies on him"
that was so hilarious we just couldn't stop laughing when she said that.
I am so excited!!! She's been wanting to go to a concert, but has no money or a way to get to a concert..so hopefully Josh has more concerts here in California, close to Los Angeles so I can take Irene and Susan.
i just have a rush of adrenaline...i have Grobanite cousins, it is so nice to have a close family member to share the love and music of Josh with.

Impressive set of pipes couldn't steal show
UPDATED: 2007-08-16 01:39:30 MST

By THERESA TAYLER

Is it opera? Is it pop? Maybe adult-contempopera?

Whatever you want to classify Josh Groban's baritone-infused classical-meets-pop sound -- it's anything but easy listening.

At first glance, Groban looks more like a shaggy-haired accountant than rock 'n' roll star, but the virtuoso has carved out a place for himself as one of adult-contemporary's best-selling artists.

Last night, the 26-year-old Californian vocalist filled the Saddledome with 10,000 diehard "Grobanites" (a sold-out crowd).

He's got an impressive set of pipes, and when applied to the right kind of music -- namely Italian opera -- Groban is a talent to be recognized and praised.

Unfortunately, the young baritone's career, thus far, has been devoted to recording music marketed to the world's largest demographic of buyers.

He's done well: His five CDs are top selling, much to the credit of superstar-making producer David Foster, who discovered Groban.

Yesterday's show was dominated by songs from Groban's newest CD, Awake, such as You are Loved (which he opened with), Mai and Un giorno Por Noi.

Groban was backed up by seven-piece band and orchestra that created a wall of sound behind him.

His octave-jumping, multilingual approach is impressive and Groban commanded the stage with his boyish charm and self-deprecating, cheesy jokes about his limited hockey knowledge.

But, there's something missing from Groban's act that his billowy voice and attempt at stage presence cannot make up for -- the music is whitewashed, stale and conservative.

Groban is a vocalist best suited to belt it out to Bach and Brahms.

It's a shame his extreme talent is wasted on the world of commercial pop music.

Opening act Angelique Kidjo, Beninese singer-songwriter who sings in French, English and Swahili, commanded the stage with grace and power.

Her echoing voice and afropop/jazz style a stark contrast to Groban's classical-popera.
