Stress and Taxes

on May 31, 2008 - 4:27pm

Not so bad as "death an taxes"... but WOW.

THIS WEEK WAS TERRIBLE.

Got a notice from the IRS... thanks to post office mishap 3 years ago I didn't get a form for one of mom's bank accounts. The punchline? SURPRISE! I owe a ton of money to good ol' Uncle Sam.

Work? Projects breaking all over the place and no money to fix them. Translation? I get to "donate" way too much time this weekend.

Skating? Would be going good except for that my coach, who I've been with since high school and is practically family (she was the 2nd person to hug me after mom died) is very seriously ill. No one even knows quite what happened either! She got back fom a business in some sort of a fugue state: she doesn't know who she is, where she is, etc. and needs 24 supervision. I haven't even been able to see her or her husband to find out what I can do to help... I found all this out yesterday morning when she didn't turn up for my lesson for the 3rd day in a row.

And to make matters worse the ice is out for the next two weeks! I can't even skate off my stress in her honor!

So yesterday was a challenge to stay OP... and I didn't really rise to it. I didn't even make the full 8 hours at work: I cam home halfway through the day and just sobbed myself numb. But today we are back on the wagon: my coach (a WW Lifetimer!) would *NOT* want me to relapse over her so I am determined to be in better shape when she gets well again.

... but I totally claim the right to a good long cry followed by an in-home spa night with Awake on the big TV.

(PS Oh yeah... I should also vent that not one, but BOTH of my car's headlights went out on me. I discovered this when the "nice" policeman pulled me over... *cry* Josh? Make me forget about this week!)

"Nalgenes"

on May 21, 2008 - 7:57pm

... No one else uses the term Nalgene? Really?

Okay... for the sake of not speaking in tongues, I meant one of those lovely almost indestructable water bottles (they're about 32 oz). "Nalgene" is the name of the company I think and it seems like that's what every one 'round these here parts call them...

So now you all have my curiosity peaked: What other goofy word do you use for common objects that are probably a local thing?

(I can think of a another one for me: we call any reusable plastic container "tuppers" (short from "tupper ware" I guess, even if they are Rubbermaids or cheapo Ziplocs))

(Oh yeah... Grobanian dialects don't count- I know those ;))

Long Time No Write...

on May 19, 2008 - 8:23pm

So today was another milestone at work...

..That's right: My first official use of *dramatic music* Sick time!

Woooo....

My officemate managed to give me the plague he'd been carrying for a near month now or something. Got to skating fine this morning but about one jump into my warmp up something went tweak and I've had a SPLITTING headache all day. I got through the ice but only made it to about 11:30 at work. So I came home, ate lunch, drank two full sized Nalgene bottles and then crashed. Four hours later I wake up in time to throw on clothes and scamble to my weigh in. (Managed to lose 2.8 lbs! WOOHOO!)

Except now I'm back on the couch with another Nalgene and some Sprite. Not a good time for me to miss work (heavy into demo season) so hopefully between the water and our boy Josh (of course he gets brought in when I'm ill) I can make it the full 8 tomorrow.

Finally Friday

on May 9, 2008 - 5:52am

Sheesh. There are some bosses who got to where they are by dropping the word 'no' from their vocabulary. Not that the situations are at all similar, but I feel like I'm having to fend off a drunken prom date! How many times do I have to tell my boss that no, we CAN'T rewrite the entire program just to add in some little feature he thought up in the middle of the night two days befor the client demo.

*sigh*

Okay, get to skating, have fun, survive 8 hours of coding, come home to Josh. Then life will be well.

(Oh yeah... insert a "walk Spectre" up there... she says: "Hello Grobania! *SLURP*!")

Happy Friday Me!

on May 2, 2008 - 7:12pm

So, this week was aweful... *almost*!

Dad decides suddenly that because he has a shiny new TV that's HD ready he wants more HD channels... so he cancels the cable and schedules the switch to DirecTV... which meant no internet this week and no TV! GAH! I'm less than a pound from goal weight and suddenly can't go online to track my points or look anything up.

First the fridge, then that!

Then work was just heck. Too many people coming to me and asking me to either put in overtime because funding is low (my translation: they can't maange project funds) or there was no funding to begin with. GAH! I'm the cheap entry level person, why am I working overitme for free?

And people were skating like sleeping trees this morning. Thanks to the new ferarri skates (which are finally broken in) I'm now ready to zip... unless I have to spend the hour DODGING people!

GAH!

But none of that matters anymore... because I just walked Spectre and checke the mail on the way back in...

...and found the AWAKE DVD GOT HERE TODAY!

YAY!

Hope every one else's arrives soon!

*zooms away to watch*
