Grobie Get-together

on October 25, 2008 - 5:51pm

What Grobie outing would be complete without a skinny blue alien and a giant M&M? A group of lovely Grobies and I decided that it had been too long since we had all seen each other, so we got together on Saturday, October 11 for a fun day in New York City! Chel, Joella, Dorit, and I got to meet Barb for the first time in person for a fun day! (No Josh, this was a girl’s only day! Well except for that pesky blue alien, but more on him later!).

We all met outside Radio City Music Hall with the usual hugs and smiles. As a group, we made our way over to Mars 2112 for a yummy lunch to catch up and celebrate Chel’s birthday! After blasting off in our very own rocket ship (Flight Number 227, I kid you not), we caught up over a fun filled day with delicious food, drinks and fun! Mars 2112, for those of you that don’t know, is an intergalactic restaurant with aliens from Mars walking around. For each person who is celebrating a birthday, one or two aliens come over with the waiter or waitress to sing Happy Birthday. Well, we all know that Grobies love to socialize. When it came time to sing to Chel, there was a group of at least 20 people that worked there that came over to sing! It was quite the party! We also joined the staff and some other enthusiastic diners in a dance line.

Before we left, our blue friend joined us for a picture

After our meal, we headed over to the M&M Store for some more goodies! There we found another friend. (A giant M&M to take a pic with)

I don’t know, I guess there’s just something charming about us! It was a fabulous time, with good laughs that served as a reminder (not that I need one), of why I am so glad these lovely ladies came into my life!

(Sorry the pics didn't copy into the entry!)

yo-yo

on May 26, 2008 - 4:11pm

Hey everybody - so this is a random entry! My mood is better than Okay but it's not as happy as it was in some other posts LOL

So I saw in the ***Soundstage Airdates*** thread that the Idina PBS concert was on last night.....with the clip of her and Josh singing Awake from the concert that was filmed at Rose Hall on April 15 (at the end). Anybody catch it? Would have liked to see that, while waiting for June 26/27. (hopefully Nay will get it!)

Anyhoo, I had an interesting, kind of laid back day. I did have to work on typing up a final, but I ran a few errands this morning. Started off very interesting (Ask Chel about it as I freak out on the phone LOL), but then I was able to pick up a couple birthday cards I needed to get (Okay I just have to share this because I am a bargin hunter but there is this store by my house that gets overflow cards from all the big shops (hallmark, american greetings, carlton cards) and since there were extras made of these cards the store sells them really cheap! 3 for a dollar! LOL)

I also went to Bob's Store (NOT BOB'S DISCOUNT FURINATURE LOL), because I needed a new pair of sneakers. I had never been to this store before and actually really liked it. Good bargins....helps me save my money for the auction nezt week! Then I came home and had a bbq with the family.

Remembering College

on May 21, 2008 - 4:56pm

In mourning of the fact that I have been out of college for a full year, I decided to share these lyrics from Avenue Q

I WISH I COULD GO BACK TO COLLEGE

KATE MONSTER:
I wish I could go back to college.
Life was so simple back then.

NICKY:
What would I give to go back and live in a dorm with a meal plan again!

PRINCETON:
I wish I could go back to college.
In college you know who you are.
You sit in the quad, and think, "Oh my God!
I am totally gonna go far!"

ALL:
How do I go back to college?
I don't know who I am anymore!

PRINCETON:
I wanna go back to my room and find a message in dry-erase pen on the door!
Ohhh...
I wish I could just drop a class...

NICKY:
Or get into a play...

KATE MONSTER:
Or change my major...

ALL:
I need an academic advisor to point the way!
We could be...
Sitting in the computer lab,
4 A.M. before the final paper is due,
Cursing the world 'cause I didn't start sooner,
And seeing the rest of the class there, too!

PRINCETON:
I wish I could go back to college!

ALL:
How do I go back to college?!
AHHHH...

PRINCETON:
I wish I had taken more pictures.

NICKY:
But if I were to go back to college,
Think what a loser I'd be-
I'd walk through the quad,
And think "Oh my God..."

ALL:
"These kids are so much younger than me."

Well in light of that, I will follow up with some wise words from the same production...

"You gotta go after the things you want while you're still in your prime..."

Awake Live Screening/Good Morning America

on May 20, 2008 - 6:17pm

Journal of Good Morning America May 15 – 16, 2008

Well what can I say, but that this was another wonderful Grobie experience. I got to spend time with my wonderful Grobies (Joella, Chel, Cindy, Kelly, Lauren, Judy), and became more familiar with some more wonderful Grobies (Connie, Nydodo, Linda, Charlie and Julie, Sue, Stacy, Deb and I am sure I am forgetting others who I talked to on the street).

Let’s start with Thursday night. That was a good night. We had fun in the theater. Joella, Chel, Cindy, Kelly, Linda and I sat in the back row and we waved our glow-sticks proud and stood up and danced. Plus seeing the concert on a big screen was very nice.

Afterwards we went to Whole Foods before they closed so people could grab a bite to eat. Since Linda and I had already eaten, we decided to go stake out our spots on the line at Bryant Park. When we got there, there was nobody there except for a few people in the park and this one guy sitting on the steps with a back pack. So we walked around for a few minutes trying to figure stuff out before sitting down on the steps to wait for more people. Well the guy that had been sitting there turned to us and asked if we were there for Josh Groban. LOL turns out he was a freelance photographer (named Mark) and turned out to be nice! This was at 10. We would be there for many more fun (and sometimes cold) hours.

I’ll be honest and tell you that I don’t remember everything that happened over night. A few people came and asked for money. Lot’s of people stopped and asked who we were waiting for. A garbage truck honked at us, a pick up truck driver whistled. Lots of good conversations were held. Yet for some reason some of it just seems a blur, in a good way.

A beautiful and blinding morning finally came (excuse the pun  ). They let us in the park around 7. Because of the rain a lot of people weren’t there and Kelly and I (the Very Important Grobies who did not have Very Important Person passes LOL), made it up to the side of the catwalk. The show was great. First we got to see each member of the band practice during sound check, which was nice. I enjoyed seeing each of them display their individual talent. When Josh came on stage he was cheerful but you could tell he was tired. He had his little cup of tea with him (awwwwwww), and thanked us for coming out in the rain. He practiced a little and they tried to get the sound worked out. He sang part of each song he sang for TV (plus the internet) (Awake, You Raise me Up and Alla Luce De Sole). For some reason he also played some lines of February Song.

There was some banter. He was good with the crowd and made a lot of faces. It was cute. He did his version of the Fonz… (loved the leather jacket btw) He also declared himself to have the sexiest ankle in the world! For all the hours we spent waiting outside, the concert went very fast, as expected it would. However, it was all worth it! I loved that he came down the catwalk even though it was treacherous. Later, he called it a slip and slide and we promised him if he came down it we would catch him but……..well you can guess what happened there.

Jo: I had the sign for you and you can see it briefly when the camera scans the crowd (look for it next to Kelly’s big green sign!) You cannot really read it but it is there! I was happy to see us on TV! Kelly and I have an ummmm awkward positioning during You Raise Me Up. LOL

So when the show was over, Chel had to go to work. Kelly and Cindy were going to change at their hotel room before eating and getting on their long bus ride. Joella went with them so we all said goodbye. I decided to go take a walk past Josh’s hotel and try my luck. As I got there, I saw a few people I didn’t know, and then Charlie, Julie, Connie, Sue and NYdodo). Tim was also still standing outside talking to people. Josh had already gone in but we hung around talking for a little while. After about five or six minutes I noticed that all the guards were still standing there so we decided to hang back and see what happened. Well….Taylor Hicks walked out of the hotel. Yes, Taylor Hicks, the gray-haired winner of American Idol. He was very very nice, but wasn’t really recognized until he was about the get into his car. He said hello to everyone and went on his soul patrol way. ;)

A little while after that, the band came out! Tariqh gave Connie the biggest hug and a kiss on the cheek. I got to talk to Andre and he was sooooo kind. After they left, Connie and I continued talking. She offered to take my camera so I could try to get an autograph of Josh without having to worry about taking the pictures. She said that since she had met him already she didn’t mind. I thought this was so sweet. I love how people can help others out like this, and Connie if you are reading this, I know I thanked you already but thank you again! It really meant a lot to me and by the way I love the buttons!

Well, then Josh came out. The guards that were there (New York City Police officers) all got very stiff and took the job very seriously. Josh went to the other side first (opposite where I was standing) and some of the people over there got a little over-zealous and Josh made his way over to my side. I gave him my Awake Live Internet Edition CD booklet to sign but I didn’t have the case so I gave him my Awake Internet Edition to lean on. I told him not to sign both, it was just to lean on. There were other people waiting and I’m not big on asking for two autographs at one time. He smiled at me and winked (*Corianne blushes*). Although I don’t like to take up too too much time, I knew that this would be my only chance so I touched his arm and said, “Josh would you mind taking a picture with me too please?” He said “Sure!” But then the cop standing next to me gently pulled me back and said “You need to move when you’re done with your autograph.” Josh held up one finger to me, signaling one minute and signed autographs for the other four people that were waiting (there were only about 20 people there). Then he walked over to me and put his arm around me and looked for the camera. Connie snapped away!  I’ll be honest and say I don’t look good in the picture. I’m soaked and hadn’t slept in 34 hours. But Josh’s arm is way around me and he looks so good and nice even if he was tired. That is one thing that really means a lot. I see this in a lot of the pictures that Josh takes with his fans. He makes each one special and gives a moment to each of his Grobanites. So thank you Josh for that. Sue, and dodo also got copies of the shot and Charlie got some pictures when I was talking to Josh. Thank you guys!

PBS Concert Journal 4-15-08

on April 19, 2008 - 5:51pm

I MET JOSH! I MET JOSH!!! (okay, now that I have gotten that out of my system, I can share my concert journal with you all. 

I have to say that I am still floating from that night. It was absolutely amazing!

First, I met so many wonderful Grobies from the board and it was so nice to put a face to a name! Also, I want to thank Chel who took me with her second ticket and Joella who pulled me up to the front with her and gave me her spot when Josh was signing autographs. She said that since she had already met him and was going to BAM she wanted me to be able to. Both of my Grobie sistas are sweethearts!

So it was a long day but it was wonderful. Joella, Chel and I hung out there ALL day. We sat outside the stage door to get Josh in for a while…….(6 hours LOL). Well about half way through those 6 hours guess who comes. GAYLE KING! She was doing a radio show in the same studio. Chel talked to her but we didn’t get to talk to her about Josh because she was in a rush.

Well as we were sitting there in the cold, I was starting to get disheartened that we weren’t going to see Josh come but all of a sudden there’s a really tall guy walking down the sidewalk. It was Darren! Joella said hi to him and he talked to us! Really really nice guy! Darren signed a picture that I have of Josh holding my hand while singing “In Her Eyes.” Darren is behind Josh watching me very closely. He went inside to make sure everything was okay and a few minutes later the GroBand pulled up in the GroVAN. They were so nice and talked to us for a little while. Lucia and Tariq couldn’t believe we got there at 8AM and asked what we would do that for (jokingly). Very nice people. Lucia actually came back out a little while later and was standing by the door and talking to people. I took a picture with her and talked to her about when I used to play the violin. She really is inspirational and told me how much I should take lessons again, it doesn’t matter how long ago I stopped playing. One thing I want to interject that I noticed about her tonight. She mouths the words as Josh sings. It’s really sweet and you can see the emotion she puts into all the songs.

Well Darren came back out then and he came over the four of us (Another girl had come and I’m sorry I forgot your name.) He said that Josh was running very very late and would not be able to sign or pose for pictures at this time. He said that we could snap away as much as we liked though. He also promised that as long as it wasn’t “too crazy” later on, Josh would sign autographs. Well Josh came and was so nice. He got out of the car and smiled at us and said “hey guys! I promise I’ll try later! Come back after the show!’ Joella gave him her present but I’ll let her tell that interesting story!

So after that we went inside to the warmth. We still had a couple of hours to kill. When we got our seats we were in the SECOND row! Honestly, the stage was so close! And I was in between my Grobie sistas Joella and Chel. They were really strict about cameras but I got good pics when he was coming in and when he was leaving. Joella btw I need a copy of that pic of Darren and I please!

The first song Josh did was You Are Loved. However, it was a different, touching version with a kind of gospel feel. I may be dorky and get over excited about seeing Josh in concert, but I don’ t normally cry. However, this version of the song brought tears to my eyes.

Then he sang All Luce del sole. This was my special moment of the concert. He was standing right in front of me and looking in my area, so I figured this was my moment. I waved and blew him a kiss and Chel waved too. He made a heart with his hands and smiled right at us! (I met Rachel who’s on the boards and she sat right in front of me and we talked about it all during the intermission!) Heart to you too Josh! I hope that they show Josh doing that on the video! *sighhhhhhhhhhhhh

I can’t remember the order of all the songs he sang but the crowd got down on Machine (right as the music started he said “I love this song”). We also got very into Weeping, people were waving arms and it was very inspirational!

Idina said the f word and Josh says “My fans don’t let me use that word” (Aww LOL) Earlier he had said “Farking” It was funny with the mistakes, but I hadn’t noticed a lot of them and they really added a lot to the show. It showed his awesome personality.

When the show was over we ran to the stage door. Darren told us that we couldn’t take posed pictures but we could snap away. He just said that Josh had to “move quick” because he couldn’t be out in the night air too long. I had my picture of Josh holding my hand singing to me during “In Her Eyes” from the July 30th show at Mohegan Sun. I had one made into a matte board. He had a black sharpie, but I had a silver one in my hand because the background of my picture was dark. I gave him the pic with the sharpie and he smiles and says “Oh, thanks I already have one.” When he looks at the pic, he looks back and me and says, “I’ll take the silver one please.” In the picture (look at my profile), Darren is watching over me very closely. Josh laughed and said, “Can I have Darren sign it too?” I said “Sure” (So thrilled to be having a conversation. Darren looks at it and asks, “Didn’t I sign one of these earlier?” Josh looks at him and says, “Darren, sign it, move quick move quick” (the words Darren instructed the crowd with  )

I’m probably leaving out a lot of details and maybe I’ll add them later. The Ben Affleck thing was adorable. All the Grobies were dying laughing and you could see the people that were there just to be there from MasterCard with the most confused looks on their faces. Sorry this is so long, but typing it helps me to relive it!
