And now for today's pillowcase update...

on September 4, 2007 - 4:42pm

I've got 30 pillowcases done and enough fabric to make another 10 tomorrow, plus about 20 tote bags. I'm going over to visit the parental units for my birthday tommorrow, and I'm sure I'll come back with a whopping load of fabric remanents from my mom My goal from the start was to end up with 50, so I think I'm going to make it. The only problem is that my butt hurts from sitting at the sewing machine for so long. I shouldn't complain, I've got plenty of padding. I'm a "brickhouse" and "mighty mighty", but I try to only let the good parts hang out. (If you don't get that reference - go listen to some Kool and the Gang!)
One of my best friends, Kaye, made "Brickhouse" our theme song, and we have a special little tush wiggling dance we do when we hear it. She's not much of a brickhouse, though. One of my cheeks equals both of hers. It all works out in the end, however. She could put both of her boobs in one of my bra cups and there would still be room to spare. She said if I ever get a breast reduction, she gets my leftovers.
I don't know what I'm going to do when this project is over. I hope GFC will be doing something in the fall, because I'm going to need something else to occupy my mind. I'm still jazzed about the idea of organizing an OreGrobians for Charity group, but I'm not getting much response. Would it be too pushy to send PMs to everyone in Oregon (and maybe southwest Washington, and Idaho, and ...) Probably, but I'll keep the idea in my head.
Well, me and my big butt had better go take a nap. The cat's are starting to think I've forgotten all about them.

Boy, Are My Feet Tired!

on September 3, 2007 - 11:42pm

I reached a new milestone today - I walked 6 miles! It took me 2 hours because for some reason I can't seem to walk any faster on the treadmill. Why is that? I know I can walk 4 miles in an hour on the track, but my feet won't go that fast on a treadmill. Oh, well. I make up for it by setting the treadmill on an incline so I get a decent workout.
I've only fully completed 6 pillowcases so far, but I have about another 20 cut out and ready to go. The cutting out part seems to take a lot longer than the actual sewing. It's a good thing I don't sleep at night when I'm not working!
It looks like my brother is done playing video games for the night and is going to bed. Now I can sew without him bitching about the livingroom lights being on. I've shared an apartment with my brother for almost 11 years now. Mind-boggling, isn't it? It works out pretty good, though. I work at night and he works days, so we don't get too sick of each other. Plus he makes a lot more than I do, so we have a sweet AV setup in the livingroom. He's single, by the way. 32, 5'11", works as an "information architect"(don't ask me, I don't have a clue), and is for sale, cheap. I'll have to post a picture. Maybe I can raffle him off as a fundraiser for Grobanites for Charity. Hmmm....

Stuck in the 20th Century

on September 3, 2007 - 3:46pm

So, I have yet more proof that I know next to nothing about this whole new internet/computer communication thingy. I got a reply from Verconica 1776 asking me to "PM" her. I'm fairly sure the M stands for message, but what is the P part, and how do I accomplish this task?
Until somebody gets me up to speed: yes, Veronica, you can certainly help with the pillowcase project. Since you live in California I'm not sure the best way to go about it if you want to work with me here in Oregon. If you check the general discussion board there is a tendertotes thread with a link to the instructions. For some reason they won't send you the address where you should send your pillowcases and totes unti you tell them how many you have. If you don't sew but still want to be involved, you could donate fabric, or even new store bought pillowcases. If there is someone closer to you who sews, then great! But if not, I suppose you could send the fabric to me and I will sew it. It would have to get to me, however, by no later than Sept. 20 so that I will have time to finish everything. Email me at dufatchats@yahoo.com if you would like my address to send fabric to. I really appreciate your interest. Please let me know what you decide to do.
Well, since Squeek (one of my cats)is attempting to lay on the keyboard, I think I'd better go feed the cats and get some sewing done. Adios for now, and have a peaceful day.

And Sew it Goes

on September 2, 2007 - 7:43am

I didn't have to work last night so yipee! I got a little extra sleep. Not at night, though. My brain is so hard wired to being awake at night that it's nearly impossible for me to sleep between the hours of 10pm and 4am. But I'll take it at what ever time of day I can get it.
I'm trying to convince myself that I should get up and go exercise. I have fibromyalgia and if I don't exercise EVERY DAY I know I will suffer for it. Since I just recently got well enough to go back to working full time, I really don't want to screw up.
So, I WILL go exercise, and then I'm going to spend a few hours making pillowcases for GFC. I went through my fabric stash last night and was amazed by how much I have that I have completely forgotten about. I am still looking for other "OreGrobians" to team up with me for this project, and time is growing short. If you are interested check out my post on the community board. I hope everyone has a peaceful day.

I see dead people.

on August 31, 2007 - 8:58am

What a hideous, soul squashing night at work. I do believe I have become the new and improved angel of death. I bore witness to 3 passings last night, 2 of them my patients, and there wasn't a damn thing I could do about any of them. Well, enough of the "my work is giving me ulcers" talk. I'm going to go exercise, then come home and listen to some Josh while I make some pillowcases for Grobanites for Charity. And then I'm going to eat some dark, dark chocolate and have hot cocoa in the tub. I wish everyone a peaceful day.
