The wind calls out...

on December 17, 2007 - 9:33pm

The silence breaks.
The wind calls out.
Get up... And take a look.
See the dark blue sky above...
The crystal snow below.
Now close your eyes-
and make a wish upon
the single star.
- Silence -
The wind calls out.
Breathe in... Breathe out.
Envision a day unlike no other.
- Silence -
The wind calls out.
Lie down... It's time to rest.
Your wish will soon come true.

Confused...

on December 16, 2007 - 7:10pm

I am so confused.

Tonight I received a call from my oldest niece asking if I would consider being a guest speaker at a teen retreat she is going on in early spring... According to her, I'm the most inspirational person she knows (go figure).

I'm not sure if I want to because I honestly don't consider myself an inspiring person. I mean, sure I help out a less fortunate family almost every Friday evening, and do a variety of volunteer projects when time permits. These are things anybody can do. So I have had a few near death experiences, pulled through a couple of severe injuries and an evacuation of an apartment building within the last 10 years. No big deal... People experience terrible things everyday. I've even made my share of (big) mistakes in life... I learned from them and moved on. So what.

My sister thinks it's a great idea... My friends think otherwise. I wish I didn't have to make this decision because I've moved on with my life... I chose to leave things where they should be - in the past. This puts me between a rock and a hard place. If I say "No", she'll be crushed... If I say "Yes", she'll be thrilled, but I may regret being a guest speaker.

I really wish I didn't have to make such a difficult decision.

Just another winter evening...

on December 15, 2007 - 9:05pm

Well, it's been a tiring day... Had three "dates" with my car, a shovel, a snow brush, and an ice scraper... Finally found the car after digging through 6 inches of snow and falling into a few snow banks. If anyone wants to help me find my car, just let me know :). You're more than welcome to help. (Exciting, I know)

Received an e-mail from a cousin out of state asking me to explain a few things about Wisconsin (she's never been here, but has seen pictures).
Brief summary of Wisconsin Facts/Terms:
- Milwaukee is not just a city, it's a culture.
- The Grain Exchange Room is no longer used for trading grain... It's now a Milwaukee historical landmark that is used special events. Most interesting place to see in the city (if allowed in).
- Cheese Head: Anybody who wears a foam Cheese Wedge hat in public or at parties (usually at sporting events or bars).
- Cheese Wedge Hat: Made out of foam. Was originally worn as a protest when Wisconsin got rid of those ugly yellow and black license plates. Now, they serve no real purpose but to make people look silly (An absolute must have... Even if its never worn)
- Bubbler: another name for a drinking or water fountain.
- Hodag: Fictitious creature supposedly found in the North Woods many years ago (just an urban legend)
- Hoop Snake: Fictitious creature supposedly found in the North Woods many years ago (just another urban legend)
- Dumped on: a phrase to describe the large amount (usually 4 inches or more) of snow in any given city.

A Josh Groban Christms

on December 15, 2007 - 9:49am

Awhile ago, I misplaced my (only) Josh Groban Cd. (Personally, I think my sister swiped it, but won't admit it). Anyways, earlier this month I received a package from a friend out of state with the instructions "Do Not Open Until Christmas"... Well, I couldn't resist. Inside the box were every one of Josh's Cd's. Of course I called my friend immediately to thank her and inquired as to why all the Cd's. As it turns out, she could not remember which Cd I had lost and couldn't decide which one to purchase. Talk about a great Christmas present!

I then in turn recorded a mix of Josh Groban songs for a less fortunate friend so she could have a Josh Groban Christmas too! She loved it!
