New Year 2009...

on January 2, 2009 - 6:12am

HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all!!I worked at the hospital yesterday and it wasn't too bad in the adult ICU..steady but not too bad. At least I got to wear my Allen Eagles State Champions 2008 t-shirt( no admin's around). My New Year's Eve was quiet and I went to bed early as a 5am wake up call comes early.
My son, his friend and I are planning to go see Valkyrie, the new Tom Cruise flick, today.
My son used to go to movies with me, but not anymore..it wouldn't be cool. And that's ok, I was the same way..it is all part of growing up.
Myself, I am working on my next military (US Marine) care kit for overseas and on blankets/afghans/beaniesfor CWL.

JOSH, hope this year brings you health and happiness..personally as well as professionally. Can't wait for the next album!
Hope you and your family had a GREAT Christmas all together.

Day After Christmas...

on December 26, 2008 - 11:41am

Hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday!
Now that my son is 15 years old he doesn't have me up at the crack of dawn, just 8:30am (usually don't see him until at least 10am).
My husband and son put up the prelit tree on the 23rd and we will have to take it down soon, or at least take some of the decorations off, as the puppy has taken down one candy cane and was chewing on a couple of the lower ornaments.
My son finally got a Wii and he played guitar hero most of the day. Then he showed me how to play bowling and we did that for a while..I actually won a game.
For all of you that are in the cold, icy, snowy parts of this country I thought I would let you know that it is 77 degrees outside today and I actually had to turn on my air conditioner as it is also cloudy and about to rain, so it is humid. And yes you saw that correctly, 77 degrees.
They also called me at 3:32am to see about working today, thank goodness I have automatic voice mail on my home phone as I would have been really upset if they had woken me up at that hour because I probably wouldn't have been able to get back to sleep. Sounds like it may be a busy weekend. I should be safe from floating to another floor as I went last weekend and we rotate around who goes.
Well, I guess I had better get the low ornaments off the tree as the puppy is chewing again.
Everyone take care.

Football Champ Celebration...

on December 23, 2008 - 6:32am

We (members of the Touchdown Club, high school football support group) got an e-mail from our head football coach that there will be a community celebration for our 5A
Div1 football state champs sometime after winter break and that is when we can get our state champ shirts. I can't wait to get one and wear it to work. I have a feeling the community celebration will be on a weekend when I am working however...darn it!!
On a different note, last night I woke up to use the restroom and when I put on my slip-ons I got a BIG surprise...at some point my puppy had peed on my shoes...SURPRISE! So after cleaning that up and going to the restroom myself I was up for awhile before I could get back to sleep.
For those of you who may not be able to check in tomorrow....
MERRY CHRISTMAS from me in the great state of Texas!! and to all a good night.

The Boys Did It....

on December 22, 2008 - 6:49am

Well....our high school varsity football team, the Allen Eagles, won the Texas state 5A championship Saturday night!!!!! The whole town is super excited as this is the first time they have won the state title. I'm assuming there will be some kind of celebration but we just started winter break so I haven't heard. I wasn't able to go to the game (had to work) but son and husband went. My son had absolutely a great time, especially for a freshman. I got home in time to watch the last half on the TV and it was a nail bitter but in the end our team won 21-14. I was not only glad for the boys but the coaches who have worked so hard as well
(I've heard the head coach doesn't yell at the kids when they are behind which I appreciate). One of the varsity team members lives nearby and his house got toliet papered. Whoever did it sure did a good job.

In addition,
Work was busy for me this weekend. On Saturday I got floated to one of our stepdown units which is a little stressful as I don't know where everything is and if I have to discharge someone I haven't got a clue what to do ( we generally don't send people home from the ICU, but to another floor). But overall it went well. On Sunday I was back at home in the adult ICU and I was just plain busy with all the things that needed to be done for my patients. And of course since my family was away I had to take care of both the dogs when I got home and in the morning before I left for work.

With all the bad weather I m hearing about in the northern part of our country, I am thankful for living in Texas. It is cold but at least no major ice and snow storms.
