I'll fly away

on December 15, 2009 - 10:56pm

Today has been quite a day. A day of loss and tears. A day of new beginnings. And a day to put things in perspective.

I woke up late this morning(not unusual for me to be honest), but late enough that I knew I'd be late to work. After fighting through traffic and cursing my cd player for not working, I made it to work with about 10 minutes to spare before my first scheduled show.(I work at a museum performing short educational shows.) I knew that lay-offs were being announced; only yesterday my best friend was laid off.(we work together). So, I was nervous already and when my boss told me that he needed to see me at 2:15, I knew the answer to the unasked question... I performed my shows as usual, chatted with my coworkers as usual. Although our conversation centered on the lay-offs, of course. So, when the time came, I ascended the stairs to the administrative level and heard my sentence. I was laid off for an undetermined length of time, effective next Wednesday.

Nerd

on December 2, 2009 - 10:14pm

Yep, that's me. I am a nerd, and proud of it! A 'Harry Potter Scene It' winning, "Brave Sir Robin ran away" singing, Star Wars quoting nerd. That is why I found this photo very amusing. I sure hope that some of you get the reference. :D

Interesting quote

on November 25, 2009 - 7:51pm

"You can't sell ideas to someone who is only interested in buying echoes"- Rev. Mark Spaw, my Pastor.

Really an interesting thought, isn't it? Everyone's been in that situation where you are trying to have a discussion about something, (anything!) and the person you're talking to won't budge at all. I found that to be a bit overwhelming and very frustrating during the election season last year. It was my first major election on social networking sites like Facebook. I have to say that I found myself becoming increasingly obsessed with trying to convince people of opposing opinions that mine was correct, thus becoming my own worst enemy. Funny how that works isn't it... I think of myself as an open-minded person, willing to admit defeat if someone proves a good point. But, I am very stubborn and it has gotten me in trouble many a time. Lessons learned, I suppose. :) "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."-Abraham Lincoln(generally attributed to him, although there is some doubt)

On a totally different note: HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all in Grobania! HAPPY THANKSGIVING to Josh, Chris, and Mr. and Mrs. Groban! :)

Monty Python

on November 22, 2009 - 11:16pm

I love Josh's latest tweet about Monty Python. I'm a big fan of their work.(I could probably quote a good 75% of "Holy Grail" without assistance...) I've been trying to catch the documentary on IFC; so far I've managed to see the hour about "Life of Brian" twice... ;) Maybe I'll get lucky and see a different hour next time.

More than that, though, I loved his observation about continuing to strive to be something different.(I get the pun...) As a performer, I agree. However, I find it difficult at times to follow through. It's so comfortable here, I know where I am, it's so hard to change, etc. But, I've held myself back for too long due to a massive fear of failure. One forgets that if you don't even try, you are failing to start...

Time to start living!

"New Moon"

on November 20, 2009 - 1:08am

I went to the midnight showing of "New Moon" with a couple friends and my Mom! I thought it was pretty good. They were true to the book and it was definitely better than "Twilight". Even though I know how the saga ends, right now I am totally on Team Jacob!(and not just because of Taylor Lautner's abs...) ;) That was actually a trending topic on Twitter: Taylor Lautner's abs... hahhaha Too funny. And, speaking of sexy men... picked up a copy of People tonight... had to see the lyrics to Josh's song... hilarious! I liked most of their choices. I could have done without seeing Jerry O'Connell in a speedo, though... It was funny. Nice picture of Josh, too. He looks very nice in blue. :) A lot of personality.
I suppose I should head to bed; need to be productive tomorrow. Good night(morning) world!! :)
