Seasonal Wonders

It was a beautiful day. The lake was blue and sparkling, compliments of the sun and blue sky. The air was fresh and cool. People were walking along the beach, flying kites. I have never seen so many zebra muscle shells on the shore in my life. The leaves on the trees are starting to turn color.

Within 90 days, the blue, sparkling lake will be full of ice and snow. The leaves on the trees will be on the ground, partially decayed and frozen under the snow. The activities of the people in this area of the world will be changing from sitting outside, going swimming in the lake, mowing the lawn, planting flowers, and riding bikes to downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and outdoor ice skating. Maybe building snow forts if we have enough snow. Some part of the area will build ice sculptures. Days will be so much shorter. We go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. We trade off high water bills from watering lawns and plants to high gas bills to keep warm.

I have described two completely opposite seasons. Spring and summer I am tired of. Time to get on with the cooler seasons.
