Simple Things In Life

Now that I am an adult I can look back on my childhood and feel so blessed that my parents were poor. If I would have been given everything I asked for, I would not have used my imagination to entertain myself. I was raised a rural area across the road from a river and across the highway from a lake. We had an empty field next to us and acres behind us.

Simple joys in the spring were going in the back to the creek to look for polliwogs or green leapers, then spring flowers. Summertime brought about swimming in the lake or river when I was older, hiking in the woods or sitting on the shoreline. My imagination was left to run wild. I had nothing to entertain me.

Yesterday was a horrible day. However, at one point I had two choices; stay miserable or do what I used to do as a teenager when I was having a tough time: Go to the lake. I walked along the shoreline of a beautiful inland lake and followed the sounds of frogs. The louder the frogs were the more excited I became. Then I found them. I found more frogs in the pond off of the lake than I have ever seen in my life. I found frog eggs. The frogs would come close to where I was standing and looked at me, turned around and swam away. They were so curious. I think I stayed in that area for about an hour or so. I will remember the simplicity of frogs singing and swimming around for a long time.
