What do you say .....

To a mother whose child - the same age as your own - has been ripped from the warm, loving arms of life and thrown mercilessly into an icy chasm of death, lonely, afraid ... and forever cold? I didn't say anything - I just sobbed and hugged her. Her angelic son, a child that my son went to school with ventured out the other day with the family dog for a walk and when the dog got away from him and fell into a sub-zero pond of water ran to save the family friend and ended up forfeiting his precious young life. The wake was yesterday and I wasn't sure if I could survive it - I did but I will never look at life the same way again. Tragedies happen each and every day and we read about them and shake our heads in disbelief but when it hits so close to home like this did and to someone so close to your own child you just tremble inside.

Hug your children, teach them things - important things like never going out onto a frozen lake in the middle of winter, teach them that if you ever get separated at a mall or anywhere else and a stranger approaches them and says "Your mom sent me to get you." not to go with them, scream, run, call for help ... they need our protection!

I love my son and never a day goes by that I don't thank God I have him ...
