In 100 degree heat, Santa arrived in Adelaide today via our annual Christmas Pageant. The pageant has been going for over 75 years and holds so many special memories for me. My father passed away when I was 12 and my fondest memories of him are when he took me to the pageant - it was our special time together.

The city has been adorned with Christmas decorations for over a week now in preparation. It might seem early to some people, but Adelaide just wouldn't be the same without our beloved pageant which is held on the second Saturday of November each year. It winds through the streets for over 3 kms and this year had 63 floats, 15 bands, many clowns and various other entertainers - all for a city of about 1 million people. As we are mesmorised by fairy tales, toys, exotic countries and Australiana, it is the last float that gets the most attention and the one that children have come to see - Santa (or Father Christmas as he is more commonly known here). Led by his team of Reindeer he takes up residence at the Magic Cave (which is in a major department store).

So now that Santa is in town, my attention turns to gift buying, decorating the house and baking! My Christmas Cake is done, the Fruit Mince for my pies is made and I am about to make Christmas Chutney to give as gifts to neighbours. My baking schedule is hectic and I can't wait!!!

And I confess.... I have been listening to Noel for a couple weeks now :)
