I could review this concert with one word and it would be “Wow”. My major “wow” came because of Josh’s voice. After not hearing him sing live in concert for 4 years his voice has gotten so much better, richer and well just more wow. Other “wow’s” came from seeing how awesome the staging is, how many times he went through the audience, how close I was to the small stage in the back.

For my Meet and Greet with Josh I took my boyfriend Adam with me, this was his first Josh Groban concert. I didn’t even have to drag him along since he likes Josh’s music too. While waiting in line to meet Josh I was excited to hear that groups could go up together. Because what I was wanting was a picture of me in the middle and Josh and Adam on either side so I would have a picture of me and my two favorite men. When it was our turn with Josh he said “Nice to meet you” I told him that I’ve already met him, that I was one of the “Pink Ladies” from the New York GMA show in November. Josh asked why I didn’t wear my pink shirt. I told him that I wanted to dress up for him. Then I got the picture I wanted. Since I wasn’t already in the middle I asked if I could be in the middle to have a picture with my two favorite men Josh said of course. When I got in place Josh said “It’s a beefsteak sandwich.”

On one of Josh’s trips into the audience he stopped (near me) and asked a little girl “How old are you?” She said she was 10. Josh also asked the little girl if she was from Charlotte she said no. Josh then asked the audience if anybody was from Charlotte a good amount of the audience cheered. Josh told us “That’s awesome, cause in other venues I’d say ‘Is anybody from…Bosie?” Josh held the far away and said “Me” mimicking one person. Josh then asked the little girl if she had been to many concerts, she said “No.” Josh then asked what her favorite concert she has been to ever. The little girl replied simply “This one.” Josh was taken aback and said “Seriously?!” That was just priceless everybody erupted in laughter. Then Josh high fived her and told her he had about 5 more songs to do and he hoped to make it worthwhile by the end on the evening. Next Josh moved a few rows down the aisle and stopped and asked a woman where she was from. She responded “Raleigh.” Josh told her “Ya, know we are going there tomorrow.”

After Josh was back on stage from his walk through the audience he commented on how polite Charlotte is. He joked that while walking though he was offered sweet tea, but he had to refuse the tea because he had a show to do and couldn’t drink with them. As a southern and a sweet tea lover I had to really laugh at that.

At one point when Josh was on the smaller stage a fan was holding up a t-shirt with Josh on it to him. Josh looked down to look at it and told her “That’s a t-shirt with my name on it, I have plenty of those already.” The fan must have asked him to sign it. Then Josh said “Oh, you want me to sign it, sure.” so he did.

After that on the smaller stage Josh starts a performance of “You are Loved” but this one is arranged differently. In my opinion this new version is better. I want a recording of this version!

At Q&A time the first question was from a girl who this concert was her first. So her question was what Josh’s first concert was. Josh said “Well I’m going to answer this honestly because I trust you. It was a New Kids on the Block concert.” There were a lot of screams and laughter including mine because my first concert was New Kids on the Block. I yelled out “that was mine!” (I couldn’t help myself) Josh continued “It was their Christmas show, I was 9.” That made me laugh even harder because I was 9 when I saw New Kids on the Block for my first concert. Josh went on to tell that he went to the show with his dad and that Donnie (from the New Kids on the Block) had said that Santa was going to sign autographs after the show and he begged his dad if her could go and his dad said no.

I want to thank FOJG for this chance; going back stage and having the photo access pass as the Road Reporter. I’ve been to 8 Josh concerts before this one and all of them were with my mom who was also a Grobanite. My mom passed away 2 1/2 years ago, the last time Josh was in Charlotte was our last Josh concert together. So as this concert was approaching I knew that this particular concert was going to be hard for me without my mom there with me. I am thankful that I had the experience backstage and with the photo pass that I wasn’t able to dwell on the fact that my mom was there with me. I’m able to look back at this concert with happy and excited memories instead of bittersweet ones. Again thank you for the experience.
