I always regretted not making it to Frankfurt in 2007, for Josh’s only concert in Germany from the Awake Tour, so this time I wanted to attend more than just one concert in his Straight to You Tour. All in all when the tour dates were announced I ended up with tickets for four different venues. I was especially excited about the concert in Copenhagen. As I am originally from Munich, Germany I’ve never been to Copenhagen before and decided to combine the concert with a short holiday. Ever since I received the email that I had been selected as road reporter, I couldn’t imagine finally standing next to Josh, after wishing for it for so long. I’ve always believed that every fan will have a very special moment with Josh one day, though looking over the city from the Star Flyer of Tivoli (an amusement park), I could hardly grasp that MY personal moment was just around the corner.

The day of the concert I had a great mixture of all kind of feelings: I was nervous, excited, glad, insecure, and everything seemed so surreal. The closer to the venue I got, the stronger the whirlwind of emotions became. Ten of us huddled outside the Falconer Salen, patiently awaiting instructions. Each of us got a Meet & Greet sticker with which we were allowed backstage. After the dos and don’ts we had to wait in a corridor until Josh arrived. The Meet & Greet itself was rather brief. Everyone got one item signed and posed for a picture with a smiling Josh. I was concerned that I would be tongue-tied, but I took the opportunity to exchange a few words – recommend that Josh check out Oktoberfest, a definite must see in Munich for this time of year. After the Meet & Greet, I already had all that I dreamed of: a photo of Josh and me, a personalized autograph and the chance to look into his hazelnut brown eyes. And that was all before the concert even began.

The show started off with Josh singing Changing Colors a wonderful song, that’s unfortunately not on any cd. During the first songs, among them February Song and You Are Loved, it finally hit me that it was all real and how lucky I was to be able to be there to experience it. I had to blink back tears of joy. My emotional highlight was the version of You Are Loved, which he sang on his dvd ‘An evening in New York’. It has always been one of my favorite songs, but the interpretation was especially beautiful and even more touching than the cd-version. The first half of the concert was a mixture of low-key songs from all albums, with many classics like Mi Mancherai. Admittedly, I missed some of his heartwarming “Illuminations”-songs, as neither Hidden Away nor Higher Window were performed. The set was kept simple, so as not to distract from Josh and his voice, which sounded as clear and impressive as always, in spite of his recent throat infection. When the band started playing Live And Let Die Josh joined in playing the drums, transitioning directly into Voce Existe Em Mim. Playing the drums seemed to be a lot of fun for Josh and also his piano was as perfect as ever. During Weeping, everyone had a good time, clapping and dancing to the rhythm. Weeping was the first song I ever saw Josh perform live in 2008 at the 46664 concert. Now every time I hear it, I feel empowered. A very touching moment was when Josh walked into the audience to talk to a man named Andrea that he had met the day before. I didn’t quite get the whole story, but the conversation ended in Josh singing You’re Still You for him, a song that not many have had the pleasure to hear live.

During the question part of the concert Josh answered three questions from the audience. One was about his trip to Tivoli, another audience member asked about what role he would be playing in a Sweeney Todd musical – of course Sweeney. For the last one, Josh made young women’s dream come true, singing The Prayer, with her together.

In the funny part of the concert, Josh told his story about the day before the concert when he had traditional Labskaus shortly before riding on one of the rides in Tivoli. Josh has a gift for turning such occasions into entertaining stories. Towards the end of the show, Josh invited a couple and two singles onto the stage and organized a plastic couch for them to sit on, poured them a glass of red wine and serenaded them with “I’m gonna get you drunk tonight”. After setting up this romantic scene Josh continued with Broken Vow - a song about cheating.

After his final song, the audience kept cheering and clapping, so Josh continued with his encores. He finished the wonderful concert singing You Raise Me Up leaving his Grobanites satisfied and happy.

In closing I would like to thank everyone who made this very special memory possible for me. Thanks to Sarah, the whole tour crew, the band, and especially Josh! I will never forget this evening in my whole life! A note to whoever may read this: I tried to share this unique experience with you as well as I could, though, even with the help of a dear friend who helped me with my English, it’s hard to find the words to capture such a memorable moment. I hope everyone will have the opportunity to experience it for themselves. I wish everyone who will be attending one of Josh’s concerts the best night of their lives. I know I just had mine.
