Midnight (a sonnet)

WriterLady's picture
on October 31, 2007 - 6:25am

No stars tonight brighten the inky sky
No sunlight pierces the blackness of night
My heart skips in fear though I wonder why
This very moment should cause me such fright.
The clock chimes twelve as I lie in my bed
Watching the darkness through the window glass
Is this a moment of fear and of dread
Or but a promise of things yet to pass?
Contradiction, both beginning and end
As dawning new day greets the days of old
Chime music fades as my mind starts to bend
From stories past onto those yet untold.
Now it is time to swear my new fealty
Not to darkness, but possibility.

Happy Halloween, Grobania!
