Crash Into Me

Crashing back down to earth with no parachute to soften my landing. After a glorious 5 days in NYC, I'm back in Houston. Sick as a dog. New York was wonderful. Magnificent. Amazing. I think I might run out of superlatives to describe this trip. We got in on Tuesday afternoon, goofed around in Times Square and Rockefeller Center. Got a preview of the tree without her make-up on. Spent all day Wednesday at Rockefeller Center. Man it was a good lunch! Stayed for the tree lighting and got to experience all the jostling and smushing I could take for the year. Dinner at Tony's was yummy! Thursday was spent trying to track down tickets to Wicked. We planned on seeing the show but were really disappointed to hear that there was a strike going on and Broadway was dark. For some weird reason, I was singing show tunes from Wicked in the shower that morning. When I got out, we turned on the TV and lo and behold, the strike was over! We hurriedly dressed and ran to the TKTS counter only to find out that they didn't have tickets to Wicked. So we ran to the Gershwin Theater box office and got there just in time to snag up the last 3 tickets to that night's performance. While we were in line, I got notification that we won tickets to the XM Artist Confidential show. We rushed back to the hotel, made changes to our travel arrangements and decompressed for a few hours. Can you imagine how excited I was? Could this day get any better? Yes it did! Wicked was phenomenal. I got to meet Sebastian Arcelus (hottie!!!) and Stephanie J. Block (one of my heroes) after the show. We tried to sleep that night but well, sleep eluded us.
Got up at 3 am on Friday to get ready and stand in line at GMA. Can I just tell you I have never been that miserable in my entire life? I was literally frozen. Dear God, the things I do for this man. After freezing our asses off at GMA, we decided to walk to the Starbucks around the corner. That's when Jaz had the brilliant idea of getting Noel up on the Jumbotron. Yo, Groban, free advertising for ya! I slept most of the afternoon because I was exhausted.
Had lunch with my friend from high school on Saturday. Cute little place in West Village called Tea and Sympathy. Yummy stuff. Met up with Lori and got ready for the show. Dear. God. In. Heaven. He sounded so amazing. I broke down sobbing when he sang TWYA. So strange, I've always been able to hold it together but for some reason, this performance just ate at my soul. I'm sure the people there thought I was some kind of nutcase. We got a chance to meet Josh after the show. Got my lanyard signed. Chatted with Kristin (Tariqh's wife) for a while. Also got to chat with Lynne Malone and finally got to thank her in person for approving my BSP in Omaha.
Did I mention this was the best trip ever? Well, this was the best trip ever. I've always loved New York but this trip just put it over the top. I'm crashing and burning and I need more NYC!

Start spreadin' the news, I'm leavin' today

I want to be a part of it, New York, New York

These vagabond shoes are longing to stray

Right through the very heart of it, New York, New York

I wanna wake up in a city that doesn't sleep

And find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap

These little town blues are melting away

I'll make a brand new start of it, in old New York

If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere

It's up to you , New York, New York
