My Personal Statement for a college

Singing has always been a major part of my life. Most of my childhood memories, and my parents’ home videos, are of me standing on coffee tables either making up my own songs or singing my most recent “favorite song” from a Disney movie. Now that I’ve grown up a little, I have realized the beauty and majesty of the classical voice.

For about seven years now, I have been listening to the music of Josh Groban. Listening to his beautiful voice had made me realize that classical voice can be just as much fun as a Broadway or pop voice. He has made me realize that being different is not only okay, but also wonderful and inspiring. His voice inspires me to want to sing, and I want to learn more about my voice and what I can accomplish with it in order to inspire others like myself one day.

Throughout my high school career, I have climbed to the top rung of the chorus ladder. I am now a Madrigal. In all three choral groups, I have been elected Librarian and placed in charge of handing out and organizing all music. I have also been heavily involved in our Drama Club, called The Black Maskers. Not only have I participated in the shows as a cast member, but I also have been chief of Publicity Crew for the past three years, making sure the school community knows about our shows and plan to attend. My dedication has earned initiation to our school’s chapter of the Thespian Society, which is a great honor.

If I were to describe myself, I would say that though I am not your typical teenager, I am not overly special. I consider myself theatrical, outgoing, kind, and dependable. I strive to better myself by learning from my mistakes and keeping an open mind to opinions that differ from my own. My voice is my key to life, and I hope that it continues to open doors for me in the future.
