If tears were a cure for unhappiness, and crying could stop one being sad, tears would be worth whatever money one had, and nothing on earth would fetch a better price.

But in fact crying has no value at all, because whether you don't bother yourself with it, or whether you lament day and night, the grief, whatever it is, will run its course.

The heart sends this vapor to the brain, and the brain, through the eyes, sends it down again, but the evil is not distilled out through the eyes.

Then what is the use of all this blubbering? It is like pouring on oil to stop something burning, and you simply lose your sleep and lose your appetite.
