Josh makes God smile

Dear Josh Journal,

I finished my prayers a little early this morning and so I grabbed my iPod. I’m listening to a version of Handel’s Messiah recorded by the Choir of New College Oxford. First, I have to say that I recommend this version to everyone and their brother. It is ridiculously amazing. It’s recorded with only 15 men and three choristers. There are amazing soloists in this choir and the orchestration is sublime.

Anyways, I was listening this morning and I was inspired to write about why I love Josh so much. I think Josh being in the music industry makes God smile. It certainly makes me smile. To say that Josh is in a category all his own is possibly an understatement. Who really compares with him? I believe he is one of only a handful of musicians who is truly humble and comfortable with his humanity. To be honest when I watch the Grammy’s, only to see Josh, I am amazed at the effort most people in the music industry go to to cloak themselves in a persona. How about just being a person? That is why millions of people love Josh Groban.

One of the things that I love most about Josh is his childlike wonder and excitement for life. Josh you’re like a breath of fresh air in a crowded, stuffy room. What a welcome relief you are. The media has tried its best to eliminate people like you. That is why I think God smiles when He thinks of you. I think you stand as a huge example to the world against the lies the media is telling us about who we should be and who we should admire.

I feel like you have been ostracized a bit by the industry because you are not willing to compromise but I think this is changing. I have been on a bit of a music purge lately. I just can’t make up excuses anymore for people who say one thing and do another. I also am growing tired of music that is basically meaningless and incomprehensible and makes me feel like crap. Okay, I was never that great at understanding poetry, however, I think some artists just try to create confusion in their lyrics because they think it’s cool. What’s cool about it? I can’t understand what you’re trying to say. How is that music? Life is hard enough without people writing music that is depressing and full of lies about life. This music gets shoved in our faces and we are told that it’s cool and we should like it or we are not cool. Screw being cool! I think I’ll listen to what I like. Music is one of the few things that people spiritually connect with. It reaches deep down into our souls. That’s kind of frightening when you think about most popular music these days.

I must come back to the fact that I love Josh Groban. I’ll say it a million times and I’ll shout it from the rooftops, “I LOVE JOSH GROBAN.” He’s amazing. He sings beautiful songs that I can relate to and I actually feel better when I listen to them. HALLELUIAH! I just got to the Halleluiah chorus on my CD, how divinely appropriate.

Praise God there is someone in the music industry who is admirable. Thank you a million times Josh for being yourself. What a wonderful man you are!

Most Sincerely,
Erika
