Any words of wisdom???

I haven't posted in several weeks because of some recent family events. My fellow Grobies have been helpful in the past and thought maybe you all could offer me some "words of wisdom" at this time...so here goes..

Has anyone had any experience with helping a child through a teen pregnancy??

My 16 yr son told me a couple of weeks ago that his 17 yr old girlfriend is pregnant. From what they tell me (and I do believe them) she was taking birth control pills and he was using a condom (they were trying to be responsible)and she was the 1 out of a 100 that still gets pregnant on the pill. They plan to give the child up for an open adoption as they realize they are too young to be parents.

I must be honest..I burst into tears when my son told me. My son and I had had the "sex talk" many times. And I was just not prepared for this. He doesn't have a very good relationship with his Dad so he asked me to tell him.

After the initial shock, I told my son I would support them as they travel through this process. My husband on the other hand just told my son he is an embarrassment (according to my son's account), which again I believe. If my husband doesn't stop the snide comments I may just have to tell him to "put up and shut up or get out" and he can pick. I just don't need his attitude at the moment.

I have only told a few people about the pregnancy..a Grobie friend in MN, a friend from work who knows how to keep a confidence, my head nurse and another friend who I met for lunch only days after my son told me about the pregnancy. I know it won't be long before many people know as it is already getting around the high school my son and his girlfriend attend.

The baby's due date is Nov 3rd..5 days before my son's 17th birthday.

As I write this I feel like crying again, so I guess I had better end for now...
