Au Jardin Des Sans Pourquoi

Retournons avant la guerre
Avant la fin
Avant le besoin de toutes ces prieres
Aucun mal
Aucun bien
Aucun mot croche
Ni mots malins que l'on dit quand on n'sait pas
Sous un ciel bleu, ciel sans nuage
Retournons la-bas
Sans orage
Retournons la-bas
Au jardin des sans pourquoi
Je t'ai vue te promener la-bas
Sous l'arc-en-ciel
Brillante comme une etincelle dans la nuit
Ou je t'ai vue aussi
Tombant du ciel
Comme une larme de St Laurent, disparaissant
Dans un ciel bleu, ciel sans nuage
Retournons la-bas
Sans orage
Retournons la-bas
Au jardin des sans pourquoi

I couldn't agree more with saying this song is touching, and so beautiful. Thank you for the translation as it only adds so much more meaning and makes the hearer feel they can empathize, and understand what the song is trying to portray. I think Josh does an amazing job with his gift. And if something like a translation from a wonderful song is there it makes me appreciate it all the more. He truly is a star shining in this world like no other. My ears have not heard all of the singers in the world, I would be lying to say they have. But they have been blessed to hear his voice
This song and others in ILLUMINATIONS "take hold" the more you listen. The message delivered in such a piercing, powerful way, that translation becomes unnecessary for the heart to feel moved. His voice only geting better with time.No need to apologize for the CD being "dark". "To everything there is a season...a time to weep and a time to laugh". Keep making music that speaks to all the seasons of our lives. Thanks
As a native French speaker, I have a question about the translation in English, maybe JH77 you can answer as you translated.
The words "larme de St Laurent" were literally translated to "tear of St Laurent" and so I wondered if you use that idiom in English too ?
In French, "Larmes de St Laurent" is sometimes used to talk about Perseids, the meteor showers that occurs in August, somewhere around St Lawrence day (which is August 10th I think),
Anyway, that's an idiom that I always liked and I like to see it in one of Josh's songs.
Just got back from Dr., listened to Illuminations the whole way there and back. When Au Jardin...played...let's just say I like it more each time I hear it.
Thank you J877 for the English translation. It is a beautiful song, made more so by being able to understand.
I am so happy to now know what the lyrics to this mean. Thank you JH77! I loved it before and now love it even more. <3
There is a comment here about wanting the song translated, so I thought I'd try to quickly translate it.
Keep in mind that translation (especially of lyrics and poetry) isn't a straight-forward thing - there's a lot to consider (meaning, nuance, connotation, rhythm). Someone else might translate it differently.
And, yep, I know that this song is translated into "The Garden without Whys" in English....but, to be honest, that translations feels too literal to me. I prefer "The Garden without Questions" or, maybe even "The Garden without Reasons".
(Also: "mot croche" could be translated as "crooked word", but I prefer "quavering")
The Garden without Questions
Lets go back: before the war
before the end
before the need for all these prayers
no evil
no good
no quavering words
no clever words that we say when we don't know
Under a blue sky, a sky without clouds
lets go back there
without a storm
to the garden without questions
I saw you walking there
under a rainbow
shinning like a spark in the night
I also saw you
falling from the sky
like a tear of St. Laurent, vanishing
into a blue sky, a sky without clouds
lets go back there
without a storm
lets go back
to the garden without questions
Cheers!
J.
Why do you not post the lyrics in English? That is mainly why we (Americans) look up the lyrics! I do not understand foreign languages. The only word in this song I understand is Pourquoi (why) but I don't know what you are wondering why about! There used to be a Lyrics page we could go to that translated them. I can not find that one any more. I do not mean to be disgruntled at my favorite singer but I think many others would also agree. Thank you for listening.
i really love this song!
Merci pour cette magnifique chanson ♥.
A very soulful song. You've touched my soul with the lyrics and your voice.
