The Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts. No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving. ~H.U. Westermayer

My fabulous, organics-only stylist had this quote on her board when I went to visit her yesterday.

I like the sentiment.
Right now, times are tough for so many, but even with the most meager of circumstances, there is always a reason to have an attitude of gratitude.

I feel extremely blessed in my life circumstances. It would be easy to pick it apart and find the flaws, but when I look at the big picture, I am blessed beyond measure. Not only do I have a roof over my head, electricity and running water every single day, but I've also got gainful employment, technology, music that touches every emotion of my soul, and really really good chocolate.

But above and beyond all of that, there are amazing people in my life. I'm blessed to work with truly brilliant individuals. I've got a friend or two who actually 'get me', Good bless them. I'm graced with family who may be far away, but they warm my heart with laughter every time we talk. And I have the greatest son....well....ever.

His observations of the world amaze me. That wicked little wit of his keeps us both in stitches. He's got an amazing ear. Sure, he may complain that "mom, I can't LEARN Linus and Lucy on the piano, it's too HARD!" one day, but give him three weeks and he's rockin it out memorized and at warp speed. At this point, I think we're both teaching other in equal share.

The world and all of its abundant possibilities is our oyster. We'll surely get lost a time or six, and there's the very likely possibility of moments of derailment. But the journey, that's the thing. I am grateful for every literal and figurative scenic view and each moment of wonder and discovery. I stand in awe as I look back upon every seemingly insurmountable hurdle that has been conquered. Today, I give thanks for the knowledge of where I've been, and the beautiful mystery of where I'm going.

Happy Thanksgiving.
