So, I decided that only two words could truly embody the feeling and spirit of last night's concert: Chanel and BBQ sauce (which is apparently what San Jose smells like). This revelation, along with many other funny and touching moments made San Jose's concert an experience I don't think anyone who was there will forget.

I got the email telling me I had won the Road Reporter contest while I was at work. I definitely squeeed out loud attracting a whole lot of strange looks but while my coworkers may have thought I was the nerdiest nerd to ever live, they were all super happy for me.

I don't remember much about my mental/emotional state at the time but I do remember sitting at my desk looking at my phone thinking "I need to text someone...I need to text EVERYONE. Who's first??!!!" and then promptly doing nothing at all as I was in a bit of a state of shock. I honestly don't know how I got so lucky, but I'm not asking too many questions. ;)
After the four days that might as well have been an eon, the day of the concert finally arrived! I probably should have just called in sick, because I got approximately nothing done at work. I bolted out the door at exactly 4:15 and made my way straight to the arena hoping to find parking that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg. I grabbed my tickets and passes and before long it was time to go inside for the Meet & Greet!

There were about 40 of us in line and we were taken to a little backstage area to wait for Josh. Darren, Josh's head of security, came out and laid down the ground rules. There were a lot of people to get through and the line would move quickly. Have your cameras out and ready. Autograph and picture, in that order. No hugging or kissing Josh (to which the entire line said "awwww"). One guy said "well what if HE kisses ME??" to which Darren responded that he didn't think that would be a problem.

Finally, it was time! Josh came out and the line moved pretty quickly. When it was my turn, I handed my purse and swag bag to a very nice girl and introduced myself to Josh. I think I shook his hand (I hope I was smiling, though honestly my face could have been doing just about anything), and I told him that I loved him in Crazy, Stupid, Love. He smiled and thanked me, and signed my wristband since I had forgotten his CD in my car. I think I said something like "You can sign my hand; I promise I won't get a tattoo" but the wristband was clearly a better choice. He put his hand on my shoulder and the picture was taken. Then, almost as soon as it began, it was over and I was back in the arena to find my seat!

Darren had noticed my press pass and asked where my seat was. When I told him I was in the 2nd row, he said not to bother with the press area since I would get better pictures from my own seat. I sat next to some very lovely people for whom this was their first Josh concert and we had a good time chatting while waiting for the show to start.

Elew was, quite simply, amazing. And by that, I mean he is a piano WIZARD. His playing literally blew my mind. If you haven't already, you should pick up his CD; his music and piano skills are fantastic, crazy and well worth listening to.

Josh's performance was spectacular, though I feel like that almost goes without saying. This was my fifth Josh concert, and not once have I ever heard him sound anything less than fabulous. Without posting too many spoilers for those who have not yet been to a concert on this tour, he did a wonderful mix of old and new songs, with my personal favorites being an awesome new version of You Are Loved and Voce Existe Em Mim.

He had many funny moments with the audience as well. He seemed to have a ton of energy and goofed off a lot in between songs. At one point he admitted to having had a LOT of caffeine before the show (those darn Jelly Beans!). Though, I can guarantee that nobody there minded in the least. ;)
Josh made good use of his Grobanite Access Points, going into the audience a number of times. The first time, he stopped by a few different people to ask for suggestions of what there is to do in San Jose. Unfortunately, he struck out with a non-english speaker, a twitterpated female fan who could only manage a nervous "oh my god", and a cute little kid who had no idea what to say. Though the San Jose crowd made up for it later on by asking some pretty great questions including wanting to know if he could do an impression for us (he did Stewie from Family Guy and it was spot-on fantastic) and did he think that Pluto should have been allowed to remain a planet (answer: yes). He also received a request from 18 year old Becca to sing with her onstage, which he did. They sang Happy Birthday to a lucky audience member and she did a great job.

The night felt like it went by so quickly, but every moment was fun and moving. He ended the evening with You Raise Me Up, asking the audience to sing with him as they didn't have a gospel choir with them this tour (other fav quote of the night: "We weren't able to have a gospel choir this time because we blew our budget on this giant wall..." LOL).
All-in-all, it was an amazing night and one that I'll never forget. This is definitely the best tour yet and I hope that everyone gets a chance to experience this wonderful concert!
