Need tires

on December 14, 2008 - 8:40pm

12/15/08 Sunday 10:30 pm

I’m sitting at my desk watching the Cowboys play. My cat is sitting on my lap, which makes it a little inconvenient to type. He sleeps, wakes up, cleans himself … and me, then goes back to sleep.

My mom and I have been alternating being sick. She was sick first. I probably got the virus from her and also needed antibiotics. Then she got sick again. We’re both feeling better now.

Yesterday, I started driving to Choctaw in Oklahoma. My mom likes to gamble. We made it to Allen when I heard a flapping sound coming from the front tire. Tread on the inside of the tire was coming apart. I knew when I checked the tires last weekend that I was probably going to need new tires. There is no probably about it now. Needless to say we went right home after the tire was changed.

I didn’t feel like spending part of my day today buying new tires so I spent it shopping for clothes. I’d already planned to go shopping anyway. The stores are having a lot of sales right now. I drove my other vehicle so it’s not a big deal to put off buying the tires for a few days. My SUV is older than the Taurus but it can be driven.

The Cowboys won!!!!

God bless us, everyone!

Snow Wish

on December 11, 2008 - 1:35pm

12/11/08 Thursday 3:30 pm

I was sick last weekend. Antibiotics with a lot of rest and I was ready for work on Monday. Why do I usually get sick on a Friday? I like work but I like my weekends better.

The weather turned cold here and I reminisced about my snow wish …

Snow Wish

I wished for snow a few years ago
I thought an inch or two would be nice
I got my wish … well, a part of it
Trees sparkled with two inches of ice

Branches broke under the heavy weight
Power lines snapped, dropping one by one
There was beauty in Mother Nature’s joke
Now … I wished for the warmth of the sun

God bless us, everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving!

on November 27, 2008 - 9:28am

11/27/08 Thanksgiving 11:20 am

As I sit here listening to the news about terrorism in India,
I am thankful that here in America we haven’t had a terrorist attack since 2001.

I’m thankful that my mom, with her frail health, is still here and I’m able to spend more time with her.

I’m thankful that I still have a job. My company moved three people from our conversion group to development, so as not to lay off anyone.

I’m thankful that I came home late from work Tuesday night. An elderly neighbor was slumped over in his car in front of our community mail boxes. I’m sad to hear that he isn’t going to live but at least he wasn’t alone in his car all night.

I’m thankful that there are so many people willing to go the extra mile to help others.
Congratulations to the Grobanites for Charity. They do a great job!

Happy Thanksgiving!

God bless us, everyone!

Shadow slept in the closet

on November 18, 2008 - 8:50pm

11/18/08 Saturday 10:30 pm

Well, I did it. I locked my cat Shadow in the closet last night. I did some laundry and went to hang up the clean clothes in my mom’s closet. I never saw him sneak in. Usually he paces back and forth right in front of me. This time he jumped into the back of the closet. I closed the door but he never made a sound. He just curled up on an old robe that was on the floor and went to sleep. I wondered why he didn’t sleep on my bed like he usually does. It wasn’t until morning that I looked for him. He had plenty of air so that wasn’t a problem, although he was thirsty.

I got my first Christmas card from the Christmas card exchange. It was from Canada. I’ll start sending out my cards this weekend. I’m looking forward to doing this.

Mom’s temperature hit 100 on Monday. I filled her prescription for antibiotics. She’s not feeling too good right now but she should start feeling better by tomorrow. She’s a little moody right now because of it.

One more day of work this week and then I get a four day weekend. It’ll be a repeat occurrence next weekend. One nice thing about not using vacation during the year is that I get a lot of time off at the end of the year.

God bless us, everyone!

Mistletoe Cat

on November 15, 2008 - 8:37pm

11/15/08 Saturday 10:00 pm

I decided to stop at the book store on my way home from shopping this afternoon. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular but found a stuffed cat that matched the cat in a children’s book I’d bought last year. The book is “Mistletoe and the Christmas Kittens”. My eyes lit up as I picked it up and held it while browsing through the store. The cat is a medium green color with a striped red, white and green tail. Its stomach and part of its face are white and its paws are red with white stockings. The clerk asked if I was going to buy the book too. I explained that I already had the book but hadn’t seen the stuffed cat before. He said, “Now you have a matched set!”

While paying for the cat the clerk asked if I’d like to donate a book for children who were affected by hurricane Ike. I said yes. It’s something I do whenever I’m in a book store and they’re looking for book donations for children. The store is Barnes & Noble. They’re also giving a percentage of the sale as a donation too.

My mom has been feeling sick since Wednesday. We were at her lung doctor on Thursday where she complained to him about her throat bothering her. This was the first I was hearing about it. After we got home, mom complained about feeling sick. I told my sister who was taking mom to her family doctor on Friday about it. She got a prescription for antibiotics just in case. Well now mom is running a fever. We’ll see how she is over the next couple of days. If she gets worse, I’ll get the prescription filled. The doctor visits were regularly scheduled follow-ups. She has an appointment with the kidney doctor next week. Aside from the chest x-ray that mom gets once a year, that’s it for this year.

I had my eyes examined last week. My distance vision has changed … for the better. I went to buy new glasses but couldn’t find a pair I liked. The styles were mostly thin little wire frames. I like the tortoise shell with bronze glasses I bought last year. Hopefully I’ll find something I like soon.

It’s been cold all day today and it’ll be even colder tonight. Some places may drop below freezing. I brought our plants into the garage and covered them with a blanket. It’ll warm up again tomorrow and I’ll bring them back out then.

I’ve got 9 vacation days left, as well as Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. It’s been a busy year at work but now it’s use it or lose it. I scheduled the days so I have a few 4 day weekends between now and year-end. Not a bad thing!

God bless us, everyone!
