dancing with the stars

on April 11, 2007 - 9:40am

Dancing with the Stars was interesting last night. Big & Rich was the musical guest. I don’t like their music. When they did the first number Drew Lachey came out and danced with Cheryl. I thought that was really fun. Drew looks like he has been practicing. lol He was really good. Someone reminded me that he was on the tour with Cheryl. I forgot that there was a Dancing with the Stars tour. lol

I really did not want Tony to go! I love him. They should just kick Leeza and Clyde off and let Tony and Elena dance. lol I didn't like Leeza's dancing. But I have said it before and I'll say it again... I love Tony! He is so cute and can really dance great. I hope he comes back and dances. Maybe next season he will get someone good and he can stay in the competition. Hopefully, he is on the show next season.

Now I have to figure out where I want all my votes to go. Based on the pattern so far, the next couple to go will be John and Edyta. We’ll see how they do next week. It really surprised me to have them in the bottom two. My prediction was half correct. lol Tony went home but Elena was not in the bottom two.

Joshua Bell & Dancing with the Stars

on April 10, 2007 - 7:23am

I was thinking about the Joshua Bell article that I read yesterday and a poem came into my head. It is called “A Touch of the Master’s Hand”.

“The Touch of the Master's Hand”
by Myra Brooks Welch

It was battered and scarred,
And the auctioneer thought it
Hardly worth his while
To waste his time on the old violin,
But he held it up with a smile.
"What am I bid, good people", he cried,
"Who starts the bidding for me?"
"One dollar, one dollar, Do I hear two?"
"Two dollars, who makes it three?"
"Three dollars once, three dollars twice, going for three",

But, No,
From the room far back a grey haired man
Came forward and picked up the bow,
Then wiping the dust from the old violin
And tightening up the strings,
He played a melody, pure and sweet,
As sweet as the angel sings.

The music ceased and the auctioneer
With a voice that was quiet and low,
Said "What now am I bid for this old violin?"
As he held it aloft with its' bow.
"One thousand, one thousand, Do I hear two?"
"Two thousand, Who makes it three?"
"Three thousand once, three thousand twice,
Going and gone", said he.

The audience cheered,
But some of them cried,
"We just don't understand."
"What changed its' worth?"
Swift came the reply.
"The Touch of the Masters Hand."

And many a man with life out of tune,
All battered with bourbon and gin,
Is auctioned cheap to a thoughtless crowd
Much like that old violin.
A mess of pottage, a glass of wine,
A game and he travels on.
He is going once, he is going twice,
He is going and almost gone.
But the Master comes,
And the foolish crowd never can quite understand,
The worth of a soul and the change that is wrought
By the Touch of the Master's Hand.

The judges were really hard on the couples this week. But I agree with all the scores. This week the dance is either a Paso Doble or a Waltz.

Week Four…
1) Laila and Maks. The music reminds me of a polka. Laila’s dress is really cool. Maks looks really cute. They got 7:7:7 from the judges. Dance: Paso Doble. Song: Les Toreadors by Semyon Bychkov & Orchestre de Paris.
2) Apolo and Julianne. I love the way they started. The dance was really good. They got 9:8:9 from the judges. Dance: Waltz. Song: If You Don't Know Me By Now by Simply Red.
3) Leeza and Tony. The dance was the worst I have seen them do. It really kills me to say that! Leeza looks like she is trying to hard. On a positive note, Tony looked so hott! I love it when he smiles. They got 6:5:5 from the judges. Dance: Paso Doble. Song: You Give Love A Bad Name by Bon Jovi.
4) Ian and Cheryl. Ian looks really good when he is clean-shaven. You can actually see his eyes, which are very pretty. I don’t like Cheryl with long hair. I thought their dance was good. They got 7:9:8 from the judges. Dance: Waltz. Song: He Was Beautiful by Shirley Bassey.
5) John and Edyta. Edyta’s dress was very interesting. It took away from the dance though. I didn’t like the dance. They got 6:5:5 from the judges. Dance: Paso Doble. Song: It's A Kind Of Magic by Queen.
6) Clyde and Elena. I like Elena’s dress. The dance was good. Elena looks really disappointed with the score. I would be too. They got 6:4:5 from the judges. Dance: Waltz. Song: Foolish by Johnny Cash.
7) Billy Ray and Karina. I feel bad for Karina. She was crying! Billy Ray really tried and it showed in their dance. Karina’s dress was awesome! I always like what she wears. I thought the dance was really good. They got 7:7:7 from the judges. Dance: Paso Doble. Song: Black Betty by Ram Jam.
8) Heather and Jonathan. I like the dress. I thought the dance was really good. They got 7:8:8 from the judges. Dance: Waltz. Song: Sandy's Song by Dolly Parton.
9) Joey and Kym. I liked the dance. It was really good and fun. They got 10:9:9 from the judges. Wow! They got a ten…the first one of the season. I don’t quite agree with that one…a nine, yes…a ten, not really. Dance: Paso Doble. Song: Collecting The Ballots by James Horner & Simon Rhodes.

Based on the pattern, Tony and Leeza are going to go home. But I really want him to stay! Feelings aside, I think that the bottom two will be Leeza/Tony and Clyde/Elena. That is ironic to me because Tony and Elena are professional dance partners. I think that Clyde has more fans than Leeza, therefore Leeza is going home. *tear* Sadness! I really like Tony. We’ll see if my predictions are right tonight on the elimination show.

Joshua Bell

on April 9, 2007 - 2:08pm

I read an article about Joshua Bell today and I think it is so sad that people won’t stop and appreciate the little things in life. One of the greatest violinists played at the metro for 45 minutes and hardly anyone noticed. What is this nation coming to?

I won’t post the entire article because it is super long. If you want to read the article, go to this website: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/04/AR200704...

If you want to hear the audio, go here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/video/2007/04/09/VI20070409...

Writing, job, tv shows, josh & court

on April 5, 2007 - 10:53am

Have you ever had a bad day (or a good day) and sat down and wrote everything you thinking? I do that sometimes. Even when I haven’t had an eventful day sometimes I still just write. It is a very good technique for when I am stressed. It’s cleansing and really helps me sort out my thoughts. Sometimes when I write one subject dominates but a few others creep in. it is fun to go back and read about what I was feeling at the time. Yesterday I had an interesting day. I sat down during the day and wrote the following:

Where should I begin? When I woke up today I felt great. I was rested and felt really happy. As is my custom when I feel good I chose to wear a white skirt today with heels. I like to dress up when I feel good. So my day was going great. The weather has been perfect. And then I went to work. I have been working at an office. They install home security systems (ie: Brinks and Watchdog!). Well, they thought that they had two months to train me before they needed full-time help. But they were wrong. I no longer have a job. I was laid off. Annie, my supervisor, was really sorry that I had to go. She said that what I did there was really helpful but that they needed someone with more office experience. I understand that. I’m afraid of what my dad will say. When I drove home I was fine. I was dealing with it and then my mom asked me why I was home so early. Then I started to freak out. How am I going to pay for Josh Groban tickets? What was Dad going to say? It’s not my fault. I should not worry about it. I just can’t believe that after working for one month they “let me go”. I told my dad about me not having a job and he did exactly what I thought he would. He was apologetic but then he said that I needed to get another job. I know I need a job! You don’t have to tell me everyday! I still don’t understand why they let me go. I thought I was doing well.

The weird thing is, I am still having a great day. On ‘Take Home Chef’ Curtis got to cook for someone who is LDS. He thought it was a challenge to not have alcohol during dinner. But he had fun. It was amusing to see his reaction.

I knew Josh’s music was good before…but I now have a new respect for ‘Awake’ after today. Today I have had a roller coaster of emotions. Josh has saved me from having a mental breakdown. ‘Now or Never’ has a line that I had to think about. “And it’s no one’s fault / There’s no black and white” ‘You Are Loved’ and ‘Smile’ are two songs that have stung a bit but they have helped the most. “Don't give up / It's just the weight of the world” I turned off the song the first time I heard it today but then I listened to this. “Light up your face with gladness / Hide every trace of sadness / Although a tear may be ever so near” Brilliance! Thanks, Josh. That is something I needed to hear right now.

Michael Bublé was on American Idol. Tony Bennett was supposed to be on but he caught the flu. That is to bad…but I am glad that he did. lol I love Michael. He sang the title track from his new CD, ‘Call Me Irresponsible’. It was a shock for me to see him there and singing a new song! I am glad that I watched. I don’t normally watch American Idol. I only watch when I like the person who helps the contestants. And I like Tony Bennett. lol

I went to the courthouse for my Business Law and Ethics class tonight. It was a lot of fun. Now I just have to write a one page paper. That should be really easy because my notes are on page, almost two pages.

Dancing with the Stars & Spring shopping

on April 4, 2007 - 7:51am

Sorry, I haven’t posted yet. I didn’t have time yesterday. I did watch the elimination yesterday and will comment on that too.

Week Three…
1) Shandi and Brian. I thought that their dance was really fun. They got 7:7:7 from the judges. Dance: Jive. Song: Crocodile Rock by Elton John.
2) John and Edyta. I liked her dress it was really pretty with the black gloves. It was very stylish. It reminded me of the dress that Katharine Hepburn wears in the movie Sabrina. They got 7:6:7 from the judges. Dance: Tango. Song: Libertango by Astor Piazzolla.
3) Clyde and Elena. I didn’t like her ponytail. The dance was nice. They got 6:5:5 from the judges. Dance: Jive. Song: Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
4) Laila and Maks. Their dance was amazing as always. I think that they will go far. Laila is such a beautiful person. Maks’ little brother is cute. “Best that we don’t know.” lol That is funny. They got 7:7:7 from the judges. Dance: Tango. Song: Goldfinger by Shirley Bassey.
5) Apolo and Julianne. I think that he was my least favorite. The dance was kind of all over the place and was really fun to watch but hard to follow. Apolo was in SLC last week and I saw his picture in the newspaper and so I knew that he came here. They got 7:8:8 from the judges. Dance: Jive. Song: You Never Can Tell by Chuck Berry.
6) Joey and Kym. I like the Star Wars theme. It was different and fun. They got 8:8:8 from the judges. Dance: Tango. Song: Star Wars Cantina Band by Meco.
7) Ian and Cheryl. Their dance was fun. Ian is doing really well. They got 8:8:8 from the judges. Dance: Jive. Song: Hard Headed Woman by Elvis Presley.
8) Leeza and Tony. I liked the choreography to the dance. I hated Leeza and Tony’s outfits. They were very bland and busy at the same time. The hat on Leeza was stupid and I don’t like the stripe thing on Tony. They got 8:8:8 from the judges. Dance: Tango. Song: Jealousy by Billy Fury.
9) Heather and Jonathan. I liked the dance. I thought Jonathan did a very good job choreographing it. They got 8:8:8 from the judges. Dance: Jive. Song: Can I Get A Witness by Marvin Gaye.
10) Billy Ray and Karina. I loved Karina’s dress. I thought it looked amazing on her. They got 7:7:7 from the judges. Dance: Tango. Song: Rock The Casbah by The Clash.

The elimination show was amazing. Ciara’s song was…umm…weird. I don’t like that style so that could have been part of it. The Paso Doble that Cheryl and Jonathan choreographed was really good. Josh looked so hott! I love that Tony danced to it. I love Tony! It was lots of fun. I can’t wait to see Josh live. Shandi Finnessey and Brian Fortuna were booted off.

I want to go shopping for some spring and summer outfits. My parents have basically told me that they are not going to buy me anymore clothes. That is fine with me because for the past few years I have bought my own clothes. My mom and I have different styles and so can’t shop for the same clothes. That is one of the main reasons I don’t shop with my mom. We saw the same skirt a few weeks ago and she thought it was “cute” and I loved it. To me the word “cute” has kind of a negative connotation. It is ok, boring, simple. (That is why I never call a boy cute; only if they are a little kid like my two year old cousin.) The skirt was a white pleated knee-length skirt with metal eyelets around the hem. I think it would look really neat with some white flats. I have been thinking about it all week. I am so ready for warm weather.
