Our day start at 3 a.m. to get ready to leave at 4:30 to catch the train to Chicago. Arrived in Chicago at about 7:30 a.m. Hailed a taxi to Borders. Arrived to a long line of Josh fans. Doors opened at 8 a.m. sharp. Since I had not received my Fan Edition of Illuminations I rushed to buy a copy of Illuminations then got my wrist band. Some of us Grobanites decided to go to the coffee shop at Borders to pass the time. We sat visiting and snapping pictures. Around 10:30 we went up to the 3rd floor. We were instructed where we should be in line by the color of our wrist bands. Once again settled in for wait for Josh to arrive. Visiting once again and making new friends. One new friend was a young man sitting on the floor in front of us. As we began to chat and introduced ourselves, the young man, Chris, explained that he really wasn't there as a fan but he was there for his girlfriend who was the fan. He was there in hopes that Josh would sign a poster (a gorgeous poster) that he had made for his girlfriend as a gift for her birthday (I think he said it was for her birthday). He became disappointed when an Border employee came around and said Josh would be only signing one cover of Illuminations per person. No memorabilia. He said that he had bought a CD and would have Josh sign that instead. We all encouraged him not to get discouraged. A while later the same employee came around and said that Josh would sign two covers per person. But no memorabilia. Once again we told Chris hang in there. Then one of the gals came up with what Chris needed to say to Josh to get him to sign the poster. It went something like this: "From one single guy to another single guy, would you sign this poster I made for my girlfriend's birthday?" The line moved quickly, so quickly that before we knew it Chris stood in front of Josh. Next thing we saw was Josh signing the poster for Chris and the CD!! We all yelled "Way to go Chris!". I know it made my day. Guess I am a romantic at heart. We lost track of Chris after that so Chris if you are out there, give us a shout please. We want to know your girlfriends reaction. Of course, then came my turn. What a honor to meet Josh. Such a gracious young man. The one thing I regret is that I didn't ask for a hug as some of my friends did. But all was right in my world for the first time in weeks. Josh just seems to do that for me. Afterwards a few of us went to lunch. Then it was off to the infamous Bean for more picture fun. We parted our way with our new found young friend and hailed a taxi to take us back to the train station. Arrived back to the "home" station around 5:30 p.m. to find that we had a parking ticket! What, huh? Off to the local police station with our parking receipt to prove we had paid the fee for the day. With that resolved we were off to find somewhere to have dinner. After dinner we drove back into Wisconsin and home. We arrived home happily exhausted.
Thank you Josh for another day of making memories and new friends. See you on tour!!
